Fundraiser for Ruth (Dymes) Kiehn

Donation protected
We are starting a GoFundMe campaign for my aunt, Ruthie (Dymes) Kiehn.  In May 2019 she was diagnosed with a rare form of gynecological cancer; vulvar squamous cell carcinoma.  After having surgery to remove the cancer, Ruthie’s prognosis looked very good; they had gotten all of it and she was in remission.  Unfortunately, Ruthie found out this week that the cancer has come back and has metastasized.  The doctors gave the very upsetting news that there is not a cure right now.  She will be starting radiation five days a week and chemotherapy one day a week in hopes to slow any new growth down and keep the cancer at bay as much as possible.  She will also be looking into a second opinion and clinical trials for treatment.

Ruthie has worked as a nurse for Oneida Healthcare Hospital for the last 39 years and has been in the OR exclusively for 28 years.  She is the epitome of what it means to be a nurse, always going the extra mile to do everything she can for her patients and the team she works with at the hospital. She is also the embodiment of a statement Florence Nightingale made “I attribute my success to this – I never gave or took any excuse.”  This extremely giving personality and amazing work ethic extends outside of her profession as well.  If you have had the pleasure to meet my aunt, you know that she is one of the most selfless people you will ever come across.  There is nothing she would not do for her family, her friends, or her community.  All that matters is that they need to be taken care of.  Now, it is our turn to take care of her.

Given the treatments my aunt is about to go through, she will no longer be able to work.  We are looking to all step in and help offset the cost of traveling to and from her treatments and any medical expenses she may incur during this time.  We all want to try and do whatever we can right now for not only my aunt but my uncle Ken and cousin Kyle right now.  Easing any financial burden they may come up against is where we are going to start.

We ask that everyone share this campaign as often as they can.  As Florence Nightingale said, “So never lose an opportunity of urging a practical beginning, however small, for it is wonderful how often in such matters the mustard-seed germinates and roots itself.”  Every ounce of support matters, there is no such thing as too little help.  Let’s show Ruthie just how much we can do for her right now.
