Fundraiser for Jason Smith’s Transplant Recovery

Donation protected
Today, 8/9/19, is the day Jason and his family have been hoping, praying and waiting for for the last 3 1/2 years! Jason has been on dialysis since December of 2015 when he learned he was in full blown kidney failure and diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease, Stage 5). The cause of his kidney failure is unknown, otherwise referred to as idiopathic, and the only cure is a kidney transplant. Earlier this year, Jason’s brother-in-law, Jon Lee gave Jason the greatest and most precious gift of love one could ever receive. Jon told Jason he wanted to donate his kidney! Jon was not a match for Jason however through the Paired Exchanged Kidney Donation Program and the dedication of his transplant team at Medical City Dallas Hospital, Jon was still able to donate a kidney to someone in need and the recipient’s loved one donated a kidney to Jason.

As many of you already know, Jason is not one to ask for help. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Jason is the very first person to lend a helping hand to a stranger or help a friend in need and has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know! I created this Go Fund Me page to give friends and family an opportunity to show Jason just how much we all love and support him. The goal is to eliminate the financial stress so Jason can solely focus on healing and a successful recovery!

Jason will need to be off work for 2-3 months to fully recover. His job has been extremely flexible and accommodating to allow him to attend dialysis 3 times per week and to go to all of his required doctor appointments, (he is beyond blessed to work for a company who has been so supportive) but this has left him with no more sick leave or paid time off. As a single dad to 13 year old son Maddox, and no income for the next 2-3 months to pay his regular monthly bills, Jason is now faced with many additional financial strains. The most crucial are the VERY expensive anti-rejection medications which are vital to the success of his transplant. Jason will need to take 3 of the 4 required anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life! In addition to all the new medications, there will be lots of hospital bills from the transplant surgery and hospitalization, not to mention the many future mandatory doctor visits he must attend 2-3 times per week to monitor the progress of his new kidney.

Together we can help ease this tremendous financial burden for Jason and his family. Please know any amount you heart leads you to donate will be extremely helpful and a blessing! Thank you in advance for all your love and support of Jason. I will post updates here on this page of his progress and recovery over the next few months. Most importantly, please continue to pray for the successful recoveries of both the courageous donors who made this all possible and for both recipients who were blessed by this miracle! God Bless!
