Funding for Scientific Research

Donation protected
Our lab was responsible for developing the technology to cryopreserve honey bee semen (scientific papers below). This technology has been used by and at WSU to bring in honey bee genetics from around the globe. WSU has a honey bee research facility being built right now.
Our lab at EWU  focuses on the development of technologies for endangered species preservation. The federal government does not fund this kind of research and EWU has an extremely underfunded science department in comparison with other state schools. All donations will be used to conduct research.

Recently Smithsonian did an article on the importance of the technology we developed for honey bee sperm cryopreservation.

My time as a graduate student and researcher is coming to an end. Continuing to do research after graduation is a luxury I will not be able to afford. Having a masters degree in biology I will be able to find a quality job but my dream would be to stay in the field of research. This $20,000 would be enough money for me to continue researching for another year and a half in the lab where I currently work.  I am not trying to get rich. Researchers eat and sleep like any other professionals. Luckily I am a trained graduate student, gets by with little to no money, and a little support go a long way.

My professor Dr. Charles Herr is a renowned cell biologist with publications on frogs, birds, mammals, and insects. His recent work on developing technology for honey bee sperm storage has revolutionized the way bee genetics are maintained and moved around the world (links to his papers can be found below). My interest in biology started with cryobiology and has blossomed into a love of cell culture systems. During my time as a graduate I have worked on freezing fish sperm and insect embryos along with developing culture systems to grow the reproductive organs of fish, cats, dogs, drosophila, and silk worms. All of our research is costly and often Dr. Herr and I will spend our own money for necessary supplies. Your monetary support would have a huge impact on the amount and types of research that we can afford to do.
