Introduction

Hello! My name is Kayleigh and I am trying to raise money to aid with my tuition fees and living expenses during my studies.

I have just completed and graduated from Swansea University, receiving a First Class honors degree in Psychology. The University has then offered me a fast-track application and an unconditional place for their Abnormal and Clinical Psychology Masters course. This is really important to me because I have been pushing towards becoming a Clinical Psychologist for the past 7+ years and the completion of this course will be a great forward step in my plans. I am dedicating my life to Clinical psychology as it focuses on the challenges faced by people with clinical, mental or physical (neuropsychological) health conditions. The role of the clinical psychologist is to work with these individuals to hopefully aid in the improving of their everyday functioning.

Here is some information about the Master's course:
- It aims to provide a high level of understanding of the theory and practice of clinical psychology within healthcare settings and prepares students for professional clinical training.
- One of four Psychology departments to achieve a 100% 4* rating (maximum score possible) for the reach and significance of its work in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.
- Top third ranking for UK Psychology Departments (2016 Complete University Guide)
- State-of-the-art technology, with over 20 general purpose research rooms and numerous specialized testing facilities with the majority of teaching carried out by practicing and/or qualified Clinical Psychologists and related professionals.

Following completion of this course, I plan on becoming an assistant psychologist which will provide me with the high-quality experience that I need in order to apply for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, allowing me to finally become fully qualified.

Expenses

The, greatly appreciated, money raised will be going towards:
- Tuition fees of £5,850 which will need to paid in either one payment or divided into two payments, both of which I will struggle to achieve to do.
- Rent of £580 a month. I am living away from home otherwise I would have had to commute every day to the University which would have been difficult to maintain.
- Other course expenses: Buying stationery and equipment, such as USB sticks, etc. Personal copies of core texts. Printing and photocopying. Binding of research projects/ dissertations. Costs of a Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Gowns for graduation ceremonies.
- General expenses of living, e.g. food, transport etc.

Any money raised will only be going towards the list mentioned above, I do not drink alcohol or smoke and so there will be no money going towards those habits.

Why can I not fund myself?

I currently have very little savings as I had to just fund for the past three years at university, including the tuition fees for that course, living expenses etc. I am in the process of applying for many jobs around the city that I am residing in but so far I have had very little luck due to my lack of experience working in retail, customer services etc as I have been dedicating all my time to gaining psychology related experiences alongside my studies.

Here are some of the experiences that I have been focused on:
- Single, unpaid week of graduate-level work experience placement with the ABMU Health Board Chronic Pain Service in which I was lucky to be allowed to shadow a Clinical Psychologist during assessments, medication discussions, and therapies.
- I was a Mental Health and Well-being Project Volunteer at Cefn Coed mental hospital in which I acted as a befriender to the patients currently staying at the hospital.
- Hospital Ward Volunteer on an elderly ward.
You can see more information about my experiences on my LinkedIn account: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kayleigh-danter-581875104/

Additionally, I do not have a full driver's license as I have not been able to afford to maintain having lessons, which further limits my ability to find a job at the moment. Even with the money coming from a part-time job, I will still be struggling to cover finances for everything needed.

I have applied for a loan of £10,280 from student finance Wales which is the maximum they are allowed to give to postgraduate students. However, this will either only cover my tuition fees and then 7 months of rent when I need at least 12 months of rent money and all the additional expenses listed previously. Or it could cover my rent contract length but will not be able to cover the tuition fees.

Some students may be able to rely on financial aid from their parents and although my parents help me as much as they can, they are too struggling with money themselves, are on low pay and receiving benefit finance so I cannot request the additional money that I require from them. Which is where you guys come in!

What can you do?

I am not requesting any large amounts from an individual. Whatever you can afford to give to me to go towards my studies and future career, will be greatly appreciated. You will be able to get involved in my transition to the course and my journey through as I will keep you updated about my progress via this site.
