Funding for Haematology Ward

Unfortunately in December 2017, at the age of 31, I was diagnosed with a blood cancer called Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. This came as a huge shock to me and my family, knowing the difficult battle that lay ahead. With the help of the Haematology day ward cancer services, I began Chemotherapy just 4 days before Christmas. Over the past 5 months I have spent endless hours and days here, getting to know the staff like friends, and I have made some lifetime connections with some of the other patients on the same journey as me. That journey being the hardest thing I have yet been faced with in life, especially as a mother. The endless worries that come with a diagnosis of cancer is unmeasurable. Throughout the tests, scans, biopsies, injections, months of chemotherapy as well as losing all of my hair, I remained positive and optimistic (and still do!) with the help of family, friends, and of course, the wonderful team in the ward.


I have decided to take part in the Flora Women's Mini Marathon in June, with the support of my mother and 3 sisters, to raise much needed funds for the Haematology ward. It is one of the busiest Haematology departments, with over 10,000 patient visits occurring here over 12 months. For patients like me, and their loved ones who come to each visit, we want to create a comfortable and home like environment. These are just simple things to make long days better, such as a kettle to hand for a cup of tea, new chairs or a tv to pass some time while receiving treatment.
