Futura Films to the Film Fest

We want to attend the All American High School Film Festival in order to make a documentary about the rise of young film makers.

Who are we?

Danny Amir, Yessica Nohpal, Christine Puglisi, and Brandon Troche make up Futura Films. We are four friends who met in High School and came together our senior year to make great digital media projects together. Each of us have great skill in video editing, a passion for filming and thrive in the creative process. However it is only together that we are our best.

First Project: Cell Four

More specifically we came together for an 84 hour film challenge. It was a powerful experience of non stop filming in cold and rain, all night editing and animating, and forced us to push our creativity to it's limits. However, after an intense 84 hours we finished with an amazing product that each of us are so proud of. Neither of us ever imagined we could create a piece such as Cell Four. From this challenge we were entered into the Connecticut Student Film Festival and were lucky enough to be named a finalist. This honor allowed us to go to the CT Student Film Fest in April of 2014.

After great reviews from the Connecticut Student Film Festival we decided to enter the All American High School Film Festival. We excitedly announce that Cell Four has been selected to be screened at the New York Festival October 27th.

Next Project: Documentary

After competing in the CTSFF and now hoping to attend the AAHSFF we have seen ourselves an our peers create some amazing work. Short films with compelling, inspirational, unique story lines. Not to mention high quality cinematography, editing and animating.

But its not just about the phenomenal work us young people produce. The stories behind the camera are far more interesting. The personalities of the filmmakers, the friendships, the long and excruciating brainstorming sessions, the sleepover editing sessions and all the roadblocks we encounter these are the interesting stories. Have you ever had to film in a torrential down pour? Using plastic bags to cover your equipment? Or have you ever had to start an online fundraiser to fund your way to a film festival? Yet despite it all we persevere because we know the excitement of creating a piece you are proud of. There is no better feeling in the world.

Why does this documentary have to happen at the AAHSFF? At the All American High School we will be able to connect with teens from all over the country and even across a few continents. This is the best place for us to hear from the most voices and truly capture an accurate picture of the teen film perspective. Additionally, at the All American High School Film Festival there will be industry professionals that will be able to add their own valuable commentary to our documentary.

We Need Your Help!

We've got the equipment and a great story we want to pursue for our documentary. Unfortunately it costs a lot of money to attend film festivals. This is one of the many issues we plan to address in our upcoming documentary. However, with your help we will raise enough money to send the four members of Futura Films to the festival in October. This is where the hard work will really begin. Here we will be able to talk to other young filmmakers and capture all the footage needed to create the documentary we've imagined. A documentary that captures the voice of this generations creators; the voices of the future.

Specifically the 2,500 we raise will mostly go into funding each of our tickets to the film festival. It costs $490.70 for each of us to attend. The rest of the money will fund our traveling costs of driving to New York and our meals for the duration of the festival.

But if we reach our goal, don't stop there!  The more money we raise the better documentary we can make.  We can always use money for newer and better equipment or there are better ticket packages we could upgrade to for the film festival.

Risks and Challenges

The biggest challenge we could for see with this project is if the All American High School Film Festival will not allow us to film at their festival. However if this was to happen, we have strong ties at the Connecticut Film Festival and we would see no problems refocusing the documentary to a state level. Additionally we could still incorporate footage and interviews from "outside" of the festival. We would still manage to make strong connections with the right people while attending the AAHSFF.

Additionally, the members of Futura Films are full time college students and therefore don't have the most free time. However, we are dedicated to completeing this documentary in a timely manner. Although if there was a delay in the editing it would be because of our busy schedules at school. Plus midterms are in late October right after the film festival! But don't worry, among the four of us we have no doubt in our abilities to create a high quality documentary in a short period of time. We are so thankful for all our backers and would not let you down!
