Fund Malawi's first data scientist?

Moses is a smart and determined leader and we aim to help him achieve his goal of becoming Malawi's first master's-trained data scientist!
ABOUT MOSES:
There are so many incredible things we could say about Moses, but to highlight a few....
He currently lives in very rural Malawi (watch this 2m video !) and leads Partners In Health Malawi's Community Health monitoring and evaluation. In his role, he's constantly finding ways to use of information to improve our community health programs and care for the residents of Neno.
He is incredibly talented with data and shows so much tenacity to improve his skills. In 2016, he presented his undergraduate thesis work at the Questionnaire Designing, Evaluation and Testing conference in Miami (abstract ). He built relationships with several professors and PhDs and this group has become central advocators in Moses' pursuit to attend graduate school.
WE CURRENTLY NEED $8K TO COMPLETE THE $29k MOSES NEEDS TO ATTEND GRADUATE SCHOOL!
He's spent the last two years preparing for graduate school and, through his persistence Moses is accepted into his dream program: a master's in data science at University of North Carolina Wilmington! He needs to show UNCW that he has $29k in July to attend and he must arrive in North Carolina by 16 August to get transport to campus.
What he and his supporters have already achieved towards the goal:
- UNCW has offered to give him in-state tuition (thank you!)
- An incredible supporter Dr. Ruth in Seattle set up a successful go-fund-me to raise $21k (thank you, Dr. Ruth and supporters)
Our current campaign:
We, his colleagues at Partners In Health, want to help Moses fill the remaining $8k! Dr. Alex and I are leading the charge and looking to you to join us. Moses is exceptionally talented and this program will help him refine his data skills and methods.
HOW HE WILL UTILIZE THIS DEGREE
Data skills are in high-demand in Malawi. In Moses' words...
"There is more technology coming to Malawi and so much data! But there is also a skill gap in Malawi to manipulate these data. Malawian's collect and expats analyze so I am trying to become Malawi's first data scientist (at least that I know of). I want help collect better data, use it and assist others to build data skills. Some examples of data to look at:
- Telecom companies: how do we use this data to improve service coverage?
- Agriculture data: I want to help look at these data. Due to climate change we are seeing a need to change crops, so how can we analyse data to help select best crops for different regions of Malawi?
- Health data: HMIS and DHS data, how can I continue our work with the Ministry of Health to better utilize data?"
Once he completes his program, Moses will apply his skills back in Malawi! While he knows there may be other opportunities abroad, his wife Maggie and 4-month-old son will be waiting for him here. Malawi government and NGOs are hungry for data scientists and we know that Moses will easily find ways to apply his talent. He also wants to teach and share his skills!
