The Frugaldom Project

Your contributions help us plant more trees and hedges to provide natural shelter, foraging and wildlife habitat around Frugaldom .

Help us plant for the future now.

Frugaldom is a 5-hectare site of grassland, marshland and clear fell located in the rural Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland. It lies within the Galloway and South Ayrshire Biosphere and is operating as a social enterprise project to encourage an active interest in our environment.

We are combining gardening and food growing with environmental art, wildlife conservation and local heritage. We're offsetting our own carbon footprint and helping our supporters and sponsors do similar by planting trees.

The project supports wildlife, creating new habitats while planting orchards, food gardens, herb paddocks, native trees and hedges.

We have already planted over 5,000 new hedging trees, created new ponds, sown wild flower seeds and propagated beneficial herbs, willows and fruit bushes.

The unicorn, which is the national animal of Scotland, was made using willow and wild wood then mounted on a recycled cable drum as an example of environmental art, recycling and incorporating this art into natural surroundings. It is now home to small birds like wrens, which can be seen bobbing in and out between the branches that make up the main structure.

We appreciate your help and thank each and every one of you who contributes towards this exciting project.

You can just make out what is left of the forest in the background horizon. It's all Sitka Spruce being harvested right now for the wood. Two entire sides of our boundary have already been laid bare and the harvesters are now felling on the third side of us... we need to keep planting as quickly as possible to provide shelter for wildlife.

From as little as £10 you can have a dedication disc engraved and displayed at Frugaldom - all around the projec you can read these discs, celebrating, commemorating and showing our gratitude to those who support the project or who have volunteered their time to come and help. There's also a memorial / commemorative garden. We have just planted a holly hedge arund this area, which will also include a circular route around the ecoarts sculptures and heritage apple orchard.
