Front-wheel Cart for Henry

Donation protected
Henry was hit by a car and left for dead. A good samaritan saw him crawling along the side of the road on his belly due to his two injured front legs, picked him up  and took him to a shelter.  The shelter vet saw that, despite his horrendous injuries, he had a sweet disposition and a strong will to live, and did not want to euthanize him. Nor Cal Beagle Rescue took him in and covered his extensive medical  expenses. I am the lucky person who adopted him a week ago.

Henry's two back legs are strong, but his left front leg is amputated at the shoulder, and his right front leg is permanently disabled.

His amputation has healed quite nicely. It's the remaining front leg that is his main problem now. It already had a compound fracture that was beginning to heal wrong before the accident that caused him to lose the other leg. They were able to save the leg by pinning it, but it's quite a bit shorter than it should be,  and still causes him pain. He will most likely be permanently disabled from it. He can stand up to eat, sit up to beg (he is a beagle after all), and hobble outside to do his business. He tries to run when he gets excited but drops down to the ground after a short effort. It hurts!

Dogs carry 65% of their weight on their front legs, and Henry hardly has a front leg to stand on! Besides the pain in his leg, the crouching position he uses to accommodate the leg will eventually cause arthritis in his spine and hips.  A custom front-wheeled cart, or "doggie wheelchair" will allow him not only to run and play, but allow him to exercise his rear legs in a normal body alignment and take the pressure off his hips and spine from constantly being in a crouched position. Henry is only 3 years old and has a long life ahead of him. A front-wheel cart could really make a difference in his future health and vitality. A custom cart for Henry will cost just over $500, and take a few weeks to create.

It takes a village to rescue a dog in distress: The good samaritan who stopped for him, the shelter staff, the Vet who did his surgery, the rescue group and donors who covered his expenses and coordinated his adoption, his foster home where he recovered from his surgeries, the transport volunteers who  drove him partway to shorten our drive to pick him up, and many more! Henry is an example of what people, even strangers, can accomplish when they work together. I am very grateful for all the help he has received, and for the opportunity to have him in my life.  Despite everything, he is a happy and loving boy and I want to do everything I can for him. If you have even a couple of dollars you can spare to help me get Henry his cart I will be very grateful! Thank you!
