From Venezuela to Auburn, AL

How often do you hear about a 55-year-old man who is pursuing a doctoral degree in computer science? What if this man was Latino, from Venezuela, and overcame many obstacles to get to that point?
Javier Livio came to the USA in his 30’s and built a career as a software engineer. But from the time he was young, it was always Javier’s dream to achieve a Ph.D. So, in 2010, Javier went back to school and worked very hard to earn his bachelors and masters degrees, all while keeping his day job and raising his two children.
In 2017, with his children out of the house, Javier was accepted to Auburn University, to work on his doctorate in computer science and software engineering with emphasis in artificial intelligence. It was an amazing opportunity to complete his dream! He took a step of faith, quit his job, and moved to Auburn, Alabama with his wife, Ines, to begin full time studies.
Javier threw himself into his studies, and also got a part time job to pay for expenses. His professors began to see his great aptitude. He got a paper published and was selected to go to Brazil and Portland, Oregon to give presentations. He is currently working on an application for a grant to help fund his cutting-edge research.
Friends and family of Javier have created this GoFundMe to help Javier make it through the finish line. Both Javier and Ines have had recent unexpected medical conditions that have generated large bills, and they realized that they can’t meet their living expenses by themselves for the next two years. They need the support and help of generous people who believe in education!
We vouch for Javier, that he is a hard worker, a loving husband, and a faithful Christian. He and Ines are always a great benefit to those around them.
