From the Bush to Beersheba

Please help us get these young indigenous men to Beersheba to honour the forgotten Aboriginal Light horsemen. Ntaria (Hermannsburg) is an Aboriginal community, 125 km west of Alice Springs right in the heart of Australia - we have a really amazing project that is going to take some of the students to the other side of the world - it’s a project that is important for the young people of the community and for all Australians...  

You see, 100 years ago, Aboriginal people weren’t treated fairly or equally, yet many Indigenous men volunteered to go to war for Australia, and hundreds of them ended up in the Light Horse Regiments. Those who returned to Australia after the war weren’t shown the respect they deserved… We want to honour those men

So, as you will see, we have a pretty big challenge here – to get some of the students from the ANZAC rides of the last couple of years to Israel this October. It’s going to be a huge event, and it’s really important that young people from this community get to honour the Aboriginal men who went to war 100 years ago. The three young fella’s that have been selected to go, will be leading the parade at the restored Turkish Railway Station at Semakh. A strategic battle took place here on September 25th, 1918. Many dignitaries will be attending including officials from Department of Veteran Affairs, Ambassadors etc. It was here the 11th and 12th Regiments made that famous charge at night, prominent in this action were Aboriginal Light Horsemen.

Thanks to some generous supporters, we’ve got some funding already, but we need another $30,000 to get all of the squad across for the centenary. Time is running out, so, if you can spare a few dollars, it’d be much appreciated…
