FRobotics Goes to Worlds

Donation protected
We are fundraising to go to worlds, and beyond!

The Franklin Regional High School Robotics team, FRobotics 4150, qualified for the FIRST World Championships in Detroit Michigan April 24-27.  This will be the first time in the team's history that they have been invited to compete with the best teams from across the globe.  The team of students designed, built, and programmed a robot together to accomplish a Deep Space-themed challenge.  They competed in the Regional Competition in Dayton, Ohio this spring, and qualified for the World Championships as finalists at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional FIRST competition on March 23rd.  The entrance fee for the Championship is $5,000; a fee that the team did not anticipate in their budget for the year.  (They are obviously thrilled to need to pay it.)  The team also needs to cover the costs of transporting the robot, its support equipment, and team members to and from the championship.

They appreciate the support of the community and their current sponsors  in helping them represent the Franklin Regional Community at the international competition.

Wondering what "FIRST" is?

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

FIRST is More Than Robots. FIRST participation is proven to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance their 21 st century work-life skills.

How the GoFundMe donations get to the team:

This GoFundMe was created by Amy Sheridan, a team parent in Murrysville PA, in order to help the team pay for the World's trip.  Because the team is an extracurricular activity sponsored by the Franklin Regional School District and does not stand on its own as a certified 501 c3 organization, by GoFundMe's rules, the funds can't be transferred directly to school as they would be to a 501c3 charity.  Funds donated have to be withdrawn into Amy's bank account, and transferred as a donation to the team's account at the Franklin Regional High school by check.  The team will have copies on hand of all transactions including the withdrawal and transfer.  The funds will be used to replenish funds that have already been depleted in preparation for the competition, and to cover upcoming reimbursements including expenses. In the event that funds are not entirely depleted for the competition, they will be kept on hand at the school for the team in preparation for future competitions.
