Misty's Surgical Journey
Donation protected
In 2005, I became sick with an issue I was unknowingly born with called pancreas divisum, in non medical terms, that means that my pancreas instead of having 2 ducts, only has one duct. The cause was not actually found until 2008 - at this time I suffered many bouts of pancreatitis, a very painful inflammation of the pancreas.
From 2009 to 2015 I went through many hospitalizations for pancreatitis, a surgery to reroute my colon to my pancreas to ease the pancreatitis (which didn't work) and 11 pancreatic duct stents (which also did not work.) Chronic pancreatitis only gives a 15 year expectancy before the pancreas completely fails and a person becomes completely insulin dependant diabetic. With all my surgical and pharmacuetical options exhausted, I am only left with one option.
So in October 2016 I traveled to Madison for consult on Transplant surgery - pancreatectomy with Islet cell transplant, in non medical terms, that means that my pancreas and spleen would be removed, all the Islet cells harvested from my pancreas and then transplanted into my liver. This would eventually cause my liver to produce the insulin my body needs to keep me from being diabetic, also eliminate my chronic pancreatitis. I was told that my pancreas needs to come out. This will be a 2 part surgery.
I am asking for donations to help cover the surgical costs and other medical expenses. All donations are greatly appreciated. I thank you for taking the time to read my story - please feel free to ask me any questions via Facebook:
