This is the face of addiction.
For over 10 years now, Savannah S. Has been fighting the demons of opiates/heroin addiction.
There is no base of reference, no magical formula to learn how to handle this disease, which contaminates more than the addict, her family, and her loved ones.
Your love for the addict becomes a counter productive weapon, an instrument of enabling the disease. As a parent, you will travel the cruel roller coaster of hope, despair, deception, guilt and sometimes - worst of all grief.
This is Savannah’s story:
When she was 17, her boyfriend of 2 years died in the car she was driving. From that point on for her, it was a dangerous spiral in the toxic world of painkillers, then heroin.
There have been many stints at rehabs facilities where she would start with good intentions and leave before completing the program. In her own words, when addiction takes over, she is not in control of her brain.
She has been homeless and couch surfing, surviving on the kindness of friends hopping from one small job to the other, and even engulfed in a toxic, self-destructive relationship with another addict.
Savannah was spared many times. 3 overdoses in the past year, she was brought back to life every single time.
In the past 2 weeks, she contracted a very serious bacterial infection next to her spine. Without proper medical attention, she would have been paralyzed for life.
Today, without health insurance, she needs and wants to go to rehab.
We are asking for your generosity to help us taking her there. While she has applied for partial scholarships, she still needs a financial contribution.
All funds raised will be handled by an administrator solely to cover rehab and medical expenses. We hope that you can help,
