Bill McShane still needs our help.
Last year, a friend and a leading advocate for aviation in New York State suffered a debilitating medical event that made it impossible for Bill to continue his work as an industry leader. Recognizing his extraordinary contributions, Bill was honored at the NYAMA Annual Fall conference and received an Honorary Lifetime NYAMA Board membership for his enormous contribution to aviation and NYAMA.
But Bill’s great challenge is still before him and he needs our help.
After nine months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers he still struggles to get around on his own. It’s time for him to get home, be with loved ones and access the type of support he can only get with family. But with Medicaid indifferent to their assistance request, they are personally paying bills for a medical lift ($15,000), licensed architectural drawings for house renovations ($10,000), ramps, widened door frames, bathroom renovations ($30,000) and there are more expenses still to be addressed.
In seeking to restart his life Bill and his family are now faced with crushing financial burdens.
With typical good cheer and an indomitable spirit, Bill is determined to accept his new quality of life but without our help the confines of his wheel chair will be the limit of his world. For a colleague who saw no limits I can’t imagine allowing Bill to be faced with such a future. Nor can his friends and colleagues stand by and watch his life savings disappear.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, and the holiday season, I, and his many friends, are humbly asking you to donate what you can at this time of year so that a good friend, a respected colleague and a much beloved aviation professional is given the opportunity to recapture his lfe.

William “Bill” McShane, a longtime NYAMA board member, aviation enthusiast, and friend to all who know him, is in need of support.
In August 2018, Bill suffered a severe seizure, and subsequent tests delivered news that was difficult to believe: Bill had brain cancer. He underwent surgery in September 2018, but doctors were unable to remove the entire tumor due to its type and location. Bill received radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy following the surgery, but he had a setback on March 5, 2019, when the tumor began to bleed. Complications led to Bill having to learn to walk again in a rehab facility. He is healing slowly but steadily, because Bill has approached his illness with the same positive attitude and determination that has defined his entire life. We know he will be coming home again soon, but modifications will need to be made to the home to make it accessible. Bill is not the type to ask others for help, but we want to make sure he has the support and resources he needs to succeed in his fight. We want to ease his financial burdens so he can focus on healing, and if you can help in any way, it would be deeply appreciated.
