Anna and Ted Zeglen came to the United States from Poland in 1985. They eventually settled in Indian Head Park, Illinois with their three children Mark, Kamil, and Aleksandra. The oldest son Mark is a successful real estate broker and recently engaged. Kamil will be attending college this year, and Aleksandra will be a sophmore at Lyons Township.
Anna was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. After chemotherapy at Loyola Hospital and being told she was "cancer free", her cancer returned this spring. While on vacation in California, Anna was admitted to the hospital after fainting. Anna is now fighting for her life as the cancer has spread to her brain and spine. Unfortunately, these medical bills incurred were not covered by her health insurance.
Anna is back at Loyola for treatment and underwent a round of radiation. She has lost the ability to walk but is making significant gains every day.
Her husband Ted plans to take Anna to Texas for a second opinion and for treatment with a physician who has had tremendous success in not only treating but curing those afflicted with this specific type of cancer. This treatment will not be covered by their health insurance and the projected costs are substantial. Anna cannot fly due to her condition. Ted will need to purchase a van that they can modify to allow Anna to lay down in transit. Anna and Ted will need to stay in Texas for perhaps days or weeks, and will undoubtedly have to make frequent follow-up visits for many months.
We respectfully call upon the Highland and surrounding community to show their support for Anna and Ted. They are currently burdened with the financial obligations of these massive medical bills incurred in California and for those bills that will undoubtedly mount for her treatment in Texas. We ask for your financial assistance and for you to spread the word that "one of our own" and a special, wonderful individual, and great family needs your help.
