Frida DeRubeis Medical Fund

Frida has always been loved and been loyal to her family and friends.  That is one reason she became a first responder with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.  She has always stood up for the underdog and fought for what is right.  Sergeant DeRubeis never backed down and always performed her law enforcement duties for the good.  Now it is time for us to help Frida with her biggest battle - the battle against cancer.

The money is needed immediately.   Treatment for the immunotherapy is approximately $40,000.  Pet Scans $2500.  Medication is expensive too.  All  monies will be directly sent to Frida for her fight against cancer.

Here is Frida DeRubeis Story:

Frida started her fight with Cancer (urothelial carcinoma) November 2016.  She had major surgery in December to remove a mass from her kidney.  In January 2017, she began Chemotherapy to eliminate any additional cancer cells.  During Chemo, she continued to complain about pain to her left side.  Even though she was in pain, Frida returned back to work and all of her duties as Sergeant at the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

May 21, 2017 Frida was admitted to the hospital with severe pain and bleeding.  She was given a bleak diagnosis.  The cancer was back and her case is terminal.  The doctors operated but they could only repair the bleeding.  Too many tumors were in her body.  However, there is one hope,  Immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy is a new cancer treatment that has been miraculous for cancer patients.   Due to the nature of the treatment, the therapy could not be started until at least one month after surgery.   Frida fought to get better and slowly she recovered.  After spending one month in the hospital, Frida was released to her home for further care.  Follow-up care has continued with the Oncologist and the Palliative Care doctor for pain management.  This type of cancer causes excruciating pain.

The Oncologist ordered a PET scan so they could determine if Frida was eligible for the Immunotherapy.   INSURANCE denied the request.  The cost is approximately $2500.  Frida paid for this test out of her pocket.  However, this test will have to be repeated many times over the course of her immunotherapy treatment.

The PET Scan did show the cancer throughout her body, but the Oncologist was very optimistic about the immunotherapy treatment.  It has reversed cancer, and stopped cancer in its tracks in many cases.  It is the new treatment for cancer.  Without all of the side effects of Chemo.  However, insurance companies have yet to get on board with the new treatment.

Immunotherapy treatment was scheduled to begin July 10th.  As of last Friday, July 7th her INSURANCE HAS DENIED TREATMENT for the Immunotherapy and her pain medication.

The money is needed immediately.   Treatment for the immunotherapy is very expensive and will have to be repeated several times.  All  monies will be directly sent to Frida and her fight against cancer.  The debate with the insurance company is ongoing.  But the treatment is needed now.  Let's help Frida win her battle with cancer and give her the time she needs to deal with the insurance company.  Without immediate treatment, there is no hope.
