NHL's Oldest Rookie
Donate today and support Tommy Frew's Cross-Canada fundraising campaign! Your support will allow Tommy to embark on a nationwide speaking tour and ultimately to play one game in the NHL. This tour and this game will amplify his message of never giving up and never allowing our challenges to define us.
Tommy Frew was a top hockey prospect in the ‘90s. Sadly he was diagnosed with a rare immune disorder that ended his chance for a professional hockey career. This diagnosis and other mental health challenges led Tommy down a dark path. Eventually, he gave up on his hockey dream and on himself. The good news is that with the support of many caring and empathetic individuals, Frew eventually got to a place that emboldened him to approach Brock University for admittance, where he went on to achieve a Master’s degree and become a full-time teacher.
At 44, he aspires to become the NHL’s oldest rookie, even if for one game and, to build awareness and raise funding for medical health issues resulting from numerous causes.
The funds raised through this donation page will allow Frew and a small team to visit cities and towns across Canada. Team Frew plans to travel across the country to share his story of hope with those affected by mental illness. The proceeds from his speaking tour will be donated to Raising the Roof’s Upstream Project , a youth homelessness prevention and mental health program and Stop Concussions Canada a foundation that educates players, administrators, physicians, coaches and officials on the cause, effects and consequences of concussions and neurotrauma injuries in sports.
The people supporting Tommy in this quest include his family and friend, students, advocates for homeless and individuals dealing with mental health issues as well as top NHL agents and players.
