The book:
From culinary adventures to (hilarious) dating horror stories, from linguistic fails (because of the accent, of course!) to Freudian slips, from national holidays to election nights, Frenchie vs. America is the result of more than a decade of hilarious, baffling, and sometimes deep, touching experiences.
Part memoirs of a girl in her twenties, part photo album and part lifestyle guide with the occasional interviews, Q&As and recipes, Frenchie vs. America brings several genres into one unique opus that reveals what it is to be a French and Francophone expatriate in America.
And there's cats, of course.
The campaign:
I decided to self-publish this book to have complete creative control over the entire process. In order to create a work the quality of which would match that of a traditionally-published non-fiction book, I decided to crowd-fund it.
The funds raised from this campaign will be used, among others, to:
- Hire an editor for the book.
- Hire a proofreader.
- Collaborate with a French or Francophone graphic artist to illustrate some of the stories told in the book.
- Acquire an ISBN number, and order sample copies for review and a quality check.
- Get a professionally-designed cover.
- Cover the purchase of any tools or software necessary to create this book, as well as a custom web domain, hosting fees, theme, etc.
- Cover travel and other costs related to meeting with and interviewing other French people all over the United States.
