Wir sind eine Gruppe von 24 Studierenden, der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, die im Frühjahr an National Model United Nations (NMUN) in New York teilnehmen werden. Bei NMUN handelt es sich um ein mehrtägiges politisches Planspiel, bei der die Arbeit der Vereinten Nationen originalgetreu simuliert wird. Jährlich nehmen über 5.000 Studierende aus über 130 Staaten teil und schlüpfen dabei in die Rolle von Diplomat*Innen.
Bei der Konferenz werden wir das südamerikanische Land Kolumbien vertreten und beschäftigen uns deshalb intensiv mit dessen Politik, Kultur und Gesellschaft und freuen uns darüber, eine andere Sichtweise auf internationale Politik kennenzulernen.
Bis vor einigen Jahren hat die Uni Freiburg noch eigenständig eine studentische Delegation vorbereitet, finanziert und entsandt. Nach Kürzungen der finanziellen Mittel in diesem Bereich musste das Projekt nach der Teilnahme im Jahr 2015 jedoch leider eingestellt werden.
Da wir das Projekt als große Chance sehen mit Menschen aus aller Welt zusammenzuarbeiten und zu erlernen gemeinsam Lösungen für komplexe Probleme zu finden, haben wir uns trotzdem dazu entschlossen eigenständig eine Gruppe auf die Beine zu stellen und die lange Reise zu NMUN nach New York anzutreten. Wir freuen uns darauf unseren Horizont zu erweitern und die Werte der UN weiterzutragen.
Uns ist es besonders wichtig, dass alle Studierenden, unabhängig von ihrer finanziellen Situation teilnehmen können. Die Kosten der Reise und der Teilnahme an der Konferenz in New York, inklusive der Kosten unserer Vorbereitung in Deutschland, belaufen sich auf circa 2000 Euro pro Person. Nicht alle können sich das leisten. Deshalb betreiben wir aktiv Fundraising und arbeiten hart dafür, es allen 24 Studierenden zu ermöglichen an dem Projekt teilzunehmen. Wir verkaufen regelmäßig Kaffee und Kuchen, haben schon unzählige Stiftungen und Firmen angeschrieben und waren sogar schon Blut spenden, um unserem Ziel näher zu kommen.

We're a group of 24 students from Freiburg University which is going to participate in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference in the upcoming Spring. NMUN is a five-day simulation of the work of the United Nations taking place in New York City. Every year more than 5000 students from over 130 nations participate in this simulation to understand what it means to be a diplomat.
At the conference, we will be representing the South American state of Colombia and are therefore intensively studying the country's politics, culture, and society. Our assignment gives us the opportunity to grasp a different perspective on international politics, which we are thrilled about.
Until a few years ago, the University of Freiburg prepared, financed and sent a student delegation as part of an International Relations seminar. Unfortunately, university funds were limited and therefore, the project could no longer be supported to this extent.
We think this project is a great opportunity to work together with people, from all over the world and to learn how to collectively find solutions to complex problems. Therefore, we decided to rise up to the challenge of a delegation run solely by students and set up a group of young aspirational people determined to attend this year's NMUN in New York.
It is very important to us, that the project is open to any student at our university, regardless of his or her financial situation. Travel and attendance at the conference in New York plus preparations cost approximately 2000 Euros per person, which is not affordable for every student. That is why we are actively fundraising and working hard to reduce the financial burden so that all 24 of us will be able to participate in the project.
We sell coffee every week, have made several bake sales, and have contacted countless foundations and companies, and even have donated blood to approximate our goal.
We are thankful for every donation, no matter how small, because it brings us closer to achieve our goal of participating at NMUN in New York.
