The Last Rancher Film

$5,817 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 118 people in 54 months
We're looking to raise $15,000 to fund both pre-production and US location filming for our feature-length documentary film about the stand-off at the Bundy Ranch in Bunkerville, Nevada.

We hope you enjoyed our short trailer, and sincerely hope it conveys our heart-felt and passionate approach to this project.

The provisional working title for this film is ‘The Last Rancher’, a 90 minute documentary film telling the inside story of this past spring's standoff at the Bundy Ranch. We believe this event is an important part of American history, one that has not only captured the attention of the national media, but also the imaginations of millions of people worldwide – it’s an incredible story which we saw unfold and now it’s time to assemble all the principle participants to retrace their steps and record their personal testimonies, opinions, feelings and emotions.

As soon as we begin to raise any funds, location shooting will begin ASAP. To get the project started off on the right foot, and to secure on-location film production as soon as possible, we have travel, accommodation, equipment, media and skilled professionals labor expenses – all of which are essential in the first legs of the project. We plan to shoot this in the highest quality possible, and have already secured a great Director of Photography, and are working closely with key participants from this event, as well as independent/citizen journalists who covered it closely. We'll need all the help we can get to make it all happen.

After we are successful in this round of funding, we will produce another new high quality trailer, and move ahead to fund the biggest nut of the project – the post-production of the film, including editing, effects, original soundtrack, computer hardware, licensing, graphics, and adding any breaking updates to the story which might take place during the post-production phase, as well as acquiring any key major network and government footage which serves as documentation for this historic Bundy-BLM stand-off. If fundrasing goes better than expected, we will use additional resources to extend the conversation to other regions - reaching out to other farmers, landowners and communities who've found themselves in a similar situation as the Bundy Ranch - to hear, and tell their stories too. We expect post-production to extend into autumn and we will shoot for a pre-release before Christmas 2014.

If all goes well, we plan to premier this film at least at one American and one European film festival, and release a shorter version of the film online (1 hr) to a wider audience, and the full feature-length on DVD. We also hope to air this documentary on TV if any channels express a serious interest in it.

SUPPORTER APPRECIATION

- If you donate $25 or more to any round of funding for this project, you will receive a special DVD gift of the final production before the official scheduled release on DVD. How comprehensive the final DVD is (e.g. double disk plus extras, deleted scenes, interviews, etc.) depends on how well we do in our second and final round of funding.

- If you donate $100 or more you will appear on the film’s production credits (tiers and titles TBA).

- If you donate $500 or more you are virtual production crew and we'll provide you with an official crew shirt and hat with film logo and 'crew' embroidered.

- If you donate $1,000 or more you are an 'Associate Producer' and will appear at this level on the film's production credits.

- If you donate $1,500 or more you are an 'Executive Producer' and will appear at this level on the film's production credits. Based on availability, we'll also arrange an interview with you about the Bundy Ranch event to be included on DVD feature.

This is well and truly a team effort. We hope to add more ‘thank you’ gifts to this as we hit each of our goals - so watch this space!

DOCUMENTARY SYNOPSIS

On April 12th, 2014 something historic and significant took place – but much of it was not covered by the mainstream media. Many of the central characters in this real life drama will have a chance to tell their story – including the Bundy family, ranchers, cowboys, protesters, law enforcement, elected representatives and local residents, as we explore events which led up to the crisis, followed by a minute by minute recounting of events on the day, and finally, reflections of events and how this connects to the lives of everyday citizens. Alternative media also played a pivotal role in elevating this story to national status and we will also be interviewing a number of commentors and journalists who covered the story when it broke. We aim to do justice to this story and will leave no stone unturned, telling the full story to the best of our ability.

Thank you in advance - if you are able to donate this project! EVERY penny helps. If you're not able to donate on this round, we hope that you will be encouraged by our progress and meet us further down the road! Introduce your friends to our project by sharing our official website and share our pre-production trailer.

UPDATE: After a long pause, the documentary film project is resuming. As some of our supporters may or may not know, the filmmaker Patrick contracted Valley Fever while working on this project and another story in the desert southwest back in July 2014. He was briefly hospitalized and then under medical care and supervision until recovering finally in December 2014. We are in the process of getting the film back on track and will be documenting the one year anniversary of the Stand-off at Bundy Ranch as well as the new Nevada Public Lands bill recently introduced in Spring 2015. Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support.

I spent nearly a month at the Bundy Ranch. I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it has. Remember Harry Reid's statement "It's not over," and his calling the protestors "domestic terrorists"? Since Senator Reid was not successful in destroying the Bundy Ranch, he is now using the BLM to close off 1,739,795 more acres in southern Nevada, adding to the nearly 1,000,000 acres already closed off by that agency. Of course, the entire Bundy Ranch plus all the grazing rights are contained in this "new" proposa placed in the Federal Register on 09/10/2014 . Even worse, the BLM is not taking public comments and have 4 options listed, of which one will be chosen. It's like saying, "You have 4 choices... drink poison, jump in front of a speeding train, shoot yourself in the head, or jump off a 20 story building. Choose which one you want!" As far a they are concerned, it's a done deal!! I received a letter from Carol Bundy last week. Excerpts from that letter follow: On Friday October 10th, 2014 a Notice from the federal registry reveals that the federal government (specifically the BLM) is mounting retaliations against the Bundy family and the Southern Nevada people. Federal Register / Vol. 79, No.197 Notice, outlines plans to make the Bundy ranch and most of the rest of Southern Nevada, Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs). 90 days from October 10th, 2014 these proposals will become federal law without consent from the Nevada State legislatures or the people of Southern Nevada. Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs) are human restricted management areas. ACECs have been a tool used by the federal government to gain further control of large masses of western lands and the resources. As proposed, nearly 3 million acres in Southern Nevada will be locked away from the people. This includes most uses on the land (recreational, agricultural or otherwise). Listed below are just a few of the outlined restriction that come with ACECs: · Closed Roads · Excluded Trails · Closed to Camping · Closed to Recreational Vehicles · Closed to Motorized Travel · Closed to Livestock Grazing · Restricted Human Hiking · Restricted Horseback Riding · Exclude Group Recreations · Closed to Mineral Development · Closed to Water Access · Closed to Hunting / Target Shooting The Southern Nevada people soon will have less access to their lands than any other people in the history of this country. There are 33 new Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs) proposed to cover Southern Nevada totaling 1,739,795 acres. 12 of the 22 existing ACECs are also proposed to be expanded. (See List Below) The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) filed this list on October 1st. 90 days after introduction of the proposal, the rulemaking will go into effect automatically! http://www.thesleuthjournal.com/federal-land-grab-feds-steal-3-million-acres-nevada-land-close-public-use/

I, an ex-army, Volunteered Vietnam, Agent Orange Vet, and a two-tour Iraqi ex-army, air born ranger, traveled over 18 hours straight through to Bunkerville, NV. As we approached the Riverside exit South to the protest site and the Bundy's Ranch we looked and saw about 10 matching, unmarked white SUV's all backed into the rest stop facing us and both agreed, it looked pretty serious here, we could get killed. We took the exit anyway. To make it clear why we did, what our attention was. We were there to prevent another Waco and/or Oklahoma City. How can be labeled domestic terrorist for that? Blessing to the Bundys to all patriots that heeded the call. God Bless America.

one thing is obvious is that a part of the federal government with a manage only status has formed a para-military unit. as a mater of fact all federal agencies especially those of management only status are forming military units and is linked to the over 800 eight hundred fema camps or internment camps and they all are part of a depopulation program.

Keep up the good work, Patrick! Why not replace your current picture with the one of you with the tortoise? Much more appropriate! Good advice from Bobby Franklin. Watch out for roadblocks! If everyone who has already donated, would do it again, you'd sure get a good boost. Hope more will help out too...I want to see your documentary! And soon! Harry deserves it!

Do NOT trust anybody in Sandoval's NV Legislature. I have watched them all for years. They are paid to ONLY recognize & promote Harry's BLM mining corporations. They entirely omit grazing rights under the desert land laws. They all know NOTHING about public land laws or NV culture therein. They are paid to destroy ALL NV farmers & ranchers, for Harry's BLM Task Force to strip-mine with Chinese solar panels, land locking ALL public access.
