Thriving after domestic abuse

Please help us with a donation.

We are not a well known charitable organisation, but what we do works, and works extremely well.  And we want to keep on doing what we do - changing lives.

Break the Cycle is going to run two more 'Mind the Gap' courses on the Isle of Wight (we have already run four courses very successfully on the Island and helped over 50 people to move forward in their lives following domestic abuse).  Please read the testimonials we have received.

The first course for women surviving after domestic abuse is booked to begin on 4th June 2018 and will run for 12 weeks. It is being held at the Riverside Centre in Newport.

The second course is for men who are surviving after domestic abuse and will run from 10th September for 12 weeks and is being held at the Riverside Centre in Newport.  Please encourage any men who are or have been experiencing domestic abuse to come forward, we want to help them move forward in their lives as the confident and capable people they truly are. They have suffered as much as women. They are not alone. Please let us help you.

The course is unique and written by Maggie Currie and re-builds feelings of self-worth, confidence, re-builds the broken person from the inside out so they once again become the valuable members of society they always were. For example some people have gone back to college, some have gained employment or started their own businesses, some have made the decision to retire, some have regained contact with their families after many years, some have ejected the abuser from their homes and started a whole new life on their own terms and all are much more sure of their future needs and the paths they want to take.

This is not a drop in group. The course is structured into 12 modules and each has 'homework' to help reinforce what is being learned, plus suggested reading.

I, Maggie Currie, am one of the trainers of this course, which I created as a follow on to the Freedom Programme delivered nationally by Refuge.  Mind the Gap fills in the gap between agency provision and social care for men and women surviving following domestic abuse.

The feedback we have received from the participants so far shows that 100% of them enjoyed the course and improved their lives and equally 100% of them say there is definitely a need for this course.

Break the Cycle is currently supported by On The Wight, and was funded by Awards4All and WightAid, and these funds have now been spent.  To enable us to run more courses we would appreciate more funding so we can continue to help more people here on the Isle of Wight.

It costs around £2,000 to run a 12 week 'Mind the Gap' course for people who have escaped from, or who want to escape from, domestic abuse here on the Isle of Wight.  Those attending pay nothing as it is free for them, but we, Break the Cycle Community Interest Company, a not for profit organisation,  pay venue costs,  course materials,  and trainer fees.

Please donate to keep these valuable courses running.
