Central lines For Kids With Cancer

YFF is currently working on a campaign of providing central lines to children with cancer free of cost, and we need YOUR help!
The medicines (chemotherapy) that children with cancer need often need to be delivered into their veins. And that too, several times a week over many months to years! Poking needles multiple times into the tiny veins of these fragile children and administering toxic medicines through them damages their veins making access difficult and painful. There is an easier way- having a central line- a big caliber line that bypasses small veins and goes directly into the main veins close to the heart. This decreases the pain, the multiple pokes and helps easy delivery of these medicines into big veins, quickly diluting them in a larger amount of blood and preventing local toxic damage to tiny veins and the delicate skin/ muscles around them on their hands/ legs. A central line also helps to get blood samples for blood tests, something that these children need on an almost weekly basis! Developing countries have the resources to place the central lines, but the families of these children can't afford them. For example, a central line costs anywhere between 140$ to 360$ in India, depending upon the type of line needed. The average income of a middle-class family in India is 1500$/year, and with no medical insurance, paying out of pocket for a central line is out of reach!! YFF has teamed up with Wadia Children's hopsital in Parel, India to help them achieve their goal of placing central lines free of cost in ~50 children with cancer over a year. This would amount approximately to 10,000$ in a year. We can't do this alone! Help us reach this goal by March 31st 2017!
By supporting this campaign, you would be helping avoid atleast 5000-6000 needle pokes to the children over a year. Children with cancer experience enough pain and bloodshed that if they can be spared even a few needle pricks, it will make a huge difference in their traumatic lives.
