A Track and Field All American Fred Cassaday was first diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, in June of 2016. This Benefit is being held in an effort to aid Fred and his family who are experiencing financial hardship due to the direct result of cancer treatment and care. Fred is a Veteran, serving from July 3, 1968 to December 14, 1980. He was Honorably Discharged as an Electric Mate 2 Class on the USS Fred T Berry (DD 858). After his service in the military, Fred matriculated a position at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard, specifically in the Electric Shop. After his first 4 years of service, he advanced to the most important position in the management department of the United States Navy maintaining the Listing on US Naval Vessels in the Field in the Naval Field today. He played a major role in not only the hard copy of the list, but generating and sharing the lists on the World Wide Web.
Fred has had the opportunity to benefit from the multidisciplinary cancer care team of Kennedy Cancer Center and the Thomas Jefferson University Department of Neurosurgery, receiving all of his care at Kennedy Washington Township. Fred had brain surgery to remove the tumors found in June of this year, and continues to undergo treatment including chemotherapy and radiation as some of the tumors have returned.
He is a husband and father/stepfather of 8 total. The youngest one of which is only 12 years old.
We hope that the donations he receives will lessen some of their financial burdens both present and future. We thank you in advance for you help.
We are also holding a benefit for him on Dec 3. I'm sure he would love to see all of you. If you are interested in coming also please let me know in your comments. Thank you
