Frankensaphi's Stitches

Hello, my name is Barbara - in August 2005, shortly after graduating from college I went blind, and long story short was later diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis!  The next few years of my life were pretty rough, I was able to regain my eyesight (I've gone blind four times since!), but the lesions severely impacted my memory and mood.  Over the course of the next few years, I became incredibly depressed and withdrawn.  I had gone from a straight A student working 2 jobs, to a person who on some days couldn't even look at the toaster and say "hey, I'm going to put some bread in the. . uh. . fridge? No, microwave?  No uh uh uh, um it's the thing you know the OHTOASTER!"   On top of the memory problems, my mood was severly impacted; I would go from laughing to yelling and raging in literally a split second, over nothing.   Even worse, I began having daily thoughts about how things would be better for everyone else if I weren't here.

My mom saw the turmoil I was in, and she saw how I was beginning to push everyone away, that I was pretty much giving up on anyone and anything, and letting depression rule my life.   She came up with the most fantastic solution ever. .Saphira!  She was born October 2007, and on Christmas Eve my parents walked in and sat down.   My dad had this TINY puppy in the pocket of his flannel shirt, complete with a minature santa hat. . I saw it and said "ha, cute," because I thought it was a stuffed animal, but then?  But then she blinked. . and tilter her head, and right there, that second we bonded.  I can't even begin to tell you the warmth that flooded me that night, how she made everything so much brighter, and has every day since.  She is my best friend, she wakes me every morning by pouncing and smothering me in kisses, and she falls alseep cuddled close every night.  It is because of her that I got through the roughest time in my life, she is the reason I am still here today.

Now to present time. . Earlier this week, I called her to bed, and she jumped off the couch, just like she has done since she was old enough to jump up there. . only this time, when she landed, she couldn't walk after she landed.  I took her to the vet and hoped it was just a slight injury, but after a ligament test I was told that they'd have to operate, a "tear of the Cruciate Ligament."   She had the surgery today, thankfully I was able to take out Care Credit, and I do have 18 months to pay it off, but I have to be honest. . I am fully disabled, I have been paying off a $6500 dental bill because my front bridge broke, and my dental doesn't cover those costs.  I am at a loss of how I'm going to finish paying off that bill and now this vet bill before the interest hits.  Any little bit helps, and I hope to one day be able to pay it forward, so thank you and God bless.

**Side note - I never got into the Facebook craze, I created 2 accounts way back when for couponing, and apps, it just asked me to link it, so I did, but if you look there is literally nothing there but retailers and games!  I much prefer Instagram <3

Saphira tonight a few hours after surgery :(  So pitiful

Saphira's staples (ouchie, hence the name FrankenSaphi!)

This is how Saphi looked before she got hurt, and how I want her to look again - healthy, happy and pain free

EEEK, one of the vet bills, I'm not sure if most people post these, but I want to show this is a legit story
