Why do I need money?
Recently I was awarded an opportunity to be a Hot Metal Artist in Residence at Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota. This is a great honor for me and something I have been looking forward to for quite some time. While at this residency I will be creating a new life size outdoor public sculpture from cast iron and steel.
What will I be creating?
The sculpture I will be creating is a part of a series of works based on my life living with depression and anxiety. Constructing a cast iron door frame in which a silhouette of my body, or the negative created by the absence of my body, will be placed. This door frame will overlook a pile of cast-iron figures that represent the social engagements that I want badly to enter, but are held at bay by my sadness and social anxiety.
Where will the money be allocated?
The residency itself has a cost that covers my mold making and casting materials.
Franconia Residency cost: $450
Gas for 2000 mile drive: $400
Steel and pattern materials: $200
Camping supplies for 4week stay: $200
Tarps and tools: $100
Food during residency: $150
