English Immersion Launchpad

Ha Giang, the latest Vietnamese province to be opened to tourism. My home is seeing national and international boom turismn over recent years. People are attracted by the natural beauty of the mountains and the streams. Also they are won over by the distinctive culture of our hill tribe minorities.

Though there are some "responsible" tourism initiatives, the boom in tourism has yet to translate into real economic growth and social benefits for my people.
At the moment, over 50% live in poverty and only a small procent have completed high school. People outside the city make's a living from mainly farming corn and rice with primitive tools.
Because of situation here the youth are vulnerable to child marriage, women trafficking and all sorts of inhumane threats. By rising household income and the levels of education, we know that we will have a positive impact on these issues.

Therefore, we really need local people who are able to speak English. This is important for us to provide a quality experience for the visitors "so they keep coming" and to create a respectful relationship between tourist and the local population.

More about the project

Aims to help selected young adults to get out of poverty by giving them the opportunity to access intensive English teaching and vocational training to work with tourists. We believe that education empowers people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to shape a better life.
