For the Love of Laura

Laura David West is an active, energetic wife and mom of 2 young boys.  She is a much loved and compassionate teacher of fifth grade students.  In August of 2016, Laura was faced with losing her mother after a lengthy illness.  She was also faced with many debilitaing symptoms over the past year, including knee and ankle injuries, as well as a broken shoulder.  Her neurologist finally connected the dots in September of 2016.  A tumor on her spinal cord was discovered and surgery was scheduled for October.  After a painfully long surgery, the doctors removed a 23 cm tumor from her spinal cord.  After a 2 month stay at Rush Hospital Laura was transferred to Marianjoy in Wheaton.  She was there until January 5 when she was able to return home to her family.  Surgery has left her with no feeling from the waist down to her toes.  At home now, Laura is faced with as she puts it, "a new normal."  Being in a wheelchair has forced Laura and her husband Ben to tackle the challenge of making her home accessible for her.  Still needed for her life and safety at home are a hospital bed, shower remodel, and many medical accessories.  Therapy continues almost daily, and doctors have ordered radiation 5 times a week for 5 weeks to destroy the debris of the tumor left after surgery which will prevent them from further growth. In addition to the long list of things they will need to purchase or pay for, they must also purchase a car.  Laura and Ben will need a car that is capable of maneuvering her in this condition.  Now that she is home the mounting medical bills are beginning to arrive.  Laura feels very uncomfortable with having a Go Fund Me account to help her and her family at this difficult time.  She doesn't realize how much she means to so many people in her life.  Please spread the word and consider helping Laura and her family with their mounting medical expenses.  If you are unable to contribute financially at this time, Laura welcomes your prayers!
