For Simon

Really, we're lucky we caught it as early as we did.

Because Simon's a weird cat, so it might not have stood out too much that he was hanging out extra long in the litter box. Thankfully, Grace knew what she was looking at when she saw him straining to pee and not being able, and we knew then that we were talking about a urinary blockage. I know it doesn't sound that serious, but in some percentage of male cats there's a tendency to get blocked up. They can't pee, and because of that after a while their bladder hardens, and eventually it ruptures. There's no coming back from that.

Unfortunately it happened at the worst possible time: after hours, when all the clinics were closed. St. John's has only one option for emergency veterinary care, and it's shockingly expensive. But given the choice either to wait and risk him dying painfully in front of us, or taking him in to the emergency vet, we did the obvious thing.

But, just so I'm clear about everything, we're not here trying to get back the money we already spent. Simon needs surgery if he's going to survive this, and that's what we're hoping to raise this money for. If we raise anything above the cost of the surgery, that'll go towards the payments we gotta make for the work already done. But right now we're just trying to raise the money to keep our cat alive.

He needs this surgery ASAP. Like, Tuesday ideally because that's the soonest we can get it done. The plan is hopefully to raise as much as we can by then, and maybe see if I can get my credit extended or something to cover the rest, and hopefully fundraise enough so that this doesn't completely cripple us financially. I've been dealing with health stuff myself (a particularly tenacious bout of Vasculitis) but I'm gonna be going to work as soon as I can, in addition to trying to finish my program at CNA. I'm gonna do everything I can to avoid being destroyed by this, just given the urgency of the situation we need a little help making sure that our little boy makes it through with us.

So yeah, that's what this is. If you want to help, I can't even tell you how much I appreciate it. This has been one of the hardest years of my life so far, and if I have to lose one of my little boys over some money, I don't know how I'll keep it together. So the help, any help, means the world to us. If you can't donate and still wanna help, maybe consider sharing this a bit? But in any case thank you so much for your time, your care, and the positivity we've already received. Much love to you all. <3
