Community SAT Prep Fundraiser

Do you want to invest in the future of your community?

The Teen Committee for the Friends of the Roseville Public Library started raising funds on 11/17/16 to provide free SAT prep courses to local sophomores, juniors, and seniors at all three libraries. Our goal is to raise $8,000 by January 2017. Read on to learn why we are doing this and how you can contribute!

An extra point on the SAT is often the difference between unreachable tuition and a scholarship that makes college affordable for a prospective student in Roseville. Scoring high on the SAT makes an immeasurable difference when it comes time to apply to college and tutoring is incredibly helpful in raising test scores. However, the best SAT tutors in the area can cost between $100 and $200 an hour! This is a burden for many families.

As the Teen Committee for the Friends of the Roseville Public Library, we have made it our mission to raise money to make SAT prep courses available as a free or wildly reduced cost resource to the teens of Roseville! We know high school is a hectic time, but with your help, these prep courses will boost the confidence of test takers by offering them tips, tricks, and knowledge of what to expect on the SAT.

The College Board contends that SAT prep should begin 6 weeks before the test for the best results. In order to reach as much of Roseville as possible, we plan to hire prep tutors to teach courses at the Maidu, Martha Riley, and Downton library branches. That adds up to about $5,000! But we are not discouraged; just $2,500 will get us about 24 hours of tutoring time. That's 8 hours of prep at each library! We plan to use any extra funds to purchase SAT prep materials to ensure the course be open to everyone, even those who cannot purchase their own materials.

We want to provide professional help to students preparing to take the tests in May or June of 2017, so our goal is to raise these funds by February 2017!

As high schoolers, the Teen Committee members have been through the stress and confusion of SAT test taking. Offering a free prep class means so much to us because we want to educate others so they feel prepared to take the SAT.

But why should it mean so much to you? Every donation is an investment in our community's future: our children. It is true that education correlates with higher earning taxpayers, meaning your donation of just $20 will help future civil servants, health-care professionals, entrepreneurs, teachers and other professionals get the education they need to serve in our community. By donating to our cause, you not only help young people reach their goals, but contribute to the continuation of our community's financial welfare.

The Friends of the Library are extremely grateful for all the help that members of the Roseville community provide for the libraries, and this is your chance to contribute! Donate to the Community SAT Prep Course Fundraiser and invest in the future.
