AUSTRALIA'S FLYING-FOXES ARE DYING BY THE THOUSANDS! THEY NEED YOUR HELP
Australia is in the grips of an unprecedented heat event and nationwide bushfire emergency. The situation is dire for our vulnerable flying-foxes. Thousands are dying of heatstroke or have to abandon their babies to find food and end up succumbing to smoke inhalation - their babies left alone to starve.
I am raising funds for Bats SE Qld, a sub-group of Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast & Hinterland Branch of which I'm a member. Our group is part of the logistical and coordinating group who have assisted in the transport of over 500 heat-stressed and bushfire-affected vulnerable grey-headed flying-fox pups from fire-ravaged areas of New South Wales and regions experiencing heatwave conditions including Nowra and the Newcastle/Hunter Valley region.
We have dispersed those precious little souls entrusted to us into the care of all our wonderful vaccinated carers in Northern New South Wales and South East Queensland.
Our carers are hand-raising the orphaned babies, using their funds to feed, house and care for them until they are old enough to be released back into the wild.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO RAISE FUNDS FOR TEMPORARY ENCLOSURES
When the flying-foxes grow big enough to fly around our carers' houses but are not yet ready to be released into the wild, they need temporary enclosures as they can be a danger to themselves and others.
We need to raise funds to purchase materials for temporary enclosures.
Enclosure material/build is estimated at $375 each. We are hoping to raise enough money to get 10 or more.
The enclosures can be used multiple times and stored for future use when and if needed.
Your help will mean the world to our amazing carers and our vulnerable flying-foxes. Flying-foxes have a vital ecological role because their feeding behaviour helps pollinate and disperse the seeds of native trees.
Please, we must do everything we can to save them!
