Flooding Emergency in Peru!

Starting on Tuesday, March 14, torrential rains have hit our dear Trujillo, Peru, and have not stopped! There is continuous flooding throughout Trujillo, causing panic and disorder in many neighborhoods that are not ready for the rain, as their houses have just been washed away by a "huaico", or a river that went from a stream to an uncontrollable and unstoppable gushing of water. Much of the damage is located in El Porvenir, a neighborhood where we held a medical campaign last year for a group of 150 poor and needy children and their mothers. These children are currently being washed away from their homes, with no water, no light, no electricity. Their homes need plastic coverings and reinforced structure. Their bodies need food and nutrition and clean water. Young babies and older people need diapers, women need feminine higene products. WE NEED TO HELP THEM! Fortunately, Hands on Peru staff is safe from the  flooding (for now) in Huanchaco, Peru about 15 km away. We have hands to help in Huanchaco and are putting together a collection campaign of items that many people so desperately need. Please help us! We have the connection in El Porvenir, we have friends who have wells who will fill water for us, we have friends who have vans that will take it, now we just need to fill those vans with items. It is useless to send the items via mail, as all highways in coastal Peru are shut down. So we ask, will you please donate money and we will purchase the items necessary here in Huanchaco to take to the affected areas! Anything helps!!!! For example, one big carton of 20L of water costs 15 soles, or $5! Donate $20 and you are able to provide drinking water for a week to one family who needs it. This is very urgent. As the rain subsides, we will continue to work in disaster relief bringing health and medical supplies to those in need. Thank you!!!
