Flights for Congolese Refugees

I am Rob Stainton, a professor at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, and very active in assisting local refugees. Because of my past experience, I was approached by two refugee settlement workers here in London, for help with a case.
Specifically, we are making an appeal on behalf of Mr. JM, a refugee from the civil war in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). JM fled his home country in 2012, having to leave behind his wife and seven children. Since his arrival in Canada, he has processed all the necessary paperwork, and saved the necessary funds, to sponsor them. After a long delay, they have finally been accepted as refugees.
They have their passports in hand and stamped with Canadian visas, and are ready to go. JM’s attempt to reunite with his family faces a serious hitch, however. JM recently had a health emergency which left him without funds for the airline tickets from Kinshasa to Toronto. He needs 8 one-way tickets at CAD$1229.21 each.
The situation is urgent because the upcoming Presidential elections in DRC, in December, will almost certainly raise the level of ongoing violence, and put the family at even greater risk.
To keep them safe, and to make sure none of their paperwork expires, we need to have them on their way here by November 30th. We are thus trying to raise $10,000.
I will be the direct recipient of the funds. We are not sharing the name of the ultimate beneficiary, nor of his family members, because this could pose a danger to the latter. If you wish confirmation of any of the above, however, please contact Ms Speciose Mukakamanzi, one of the settlement workers. I can make her email or phone number available upon request.
To be clear, this is a private initiative. As a result, no tax receipt can be issued.
The payment plan is as follows. I will withdraw all the funds to my personal bank account at CIBC. I will purchase the tickets myself through Vision Travel Solutions, using my MasterCard. (This agency is that of a personal friend, Bushra Dickson, and she is working to secure a discount fare on Mr. JM's behalf.) That will serve as proof of where the monies have been spent.
We plan to close this campaign as soon as enough money has been raised for travel. If, however, any additional funding happens to be collected, we will be giving this to Mr. JM and his family of eight, as they will have to purchase winter clothing and pay for a great number of other necessities upon arriving in Canada.
