Flechia's Medical Fund

On the 28th of July, Flechia was admitted to the University of Missouri Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Her blood sugar tested at 4 times the healthy level. She was then found to have a blood clot in her leg, and two major arteries in her heart were blocked. After her blood sugar was reduced, she had surgery to address the blood clot in her leg. While in surgery she had to be resuscitated once. She was revived and kept in a medically induced coma on a ventilator for 24 hours. Once she was awake, a blockage was discovered behind her right eye, rendering her completely blind in the right eye and 20/400 in the left eye. During surgery, the blood clot had moved behind her eye, causing the blockage that in turn led to her blindness. Since this point, she has struggled with maintaining her blood sugar levels and blood pressure. After a two-week hospital stay, she was discharged on August 9th. Flechia will need additional assistance in adjusting to their new reality.

Her family is now faced with additional expenses related to her hospital stay, insurance bills, and life-changing circumstances. Flechia will be taking early retirement from her 23-year teaching career and going on disability. The family is faced with a $2,000 hospital deductible, $2,000 physicians deductible, and an increase of $418 to their monthly insurance premium until she can be approved for Medicaid Disability.

Flechia is a mother, wife, teacher, and devout Christian. She is currently raising two wonderful sons, Cameron (19) and Caleb (4). Although her condition will bring new challenges into raising her children, everyone is more than confident that she will continue to be the caring and loving mother she has always been.  Her husband of 23 years is a long-time detective sergeant with the Missouri University Police. For 23 years Flechia has touched the lives and hearts of countless young children as a kindergarten and pre-school teacher. As a family of faith, we are moving forward and embracing the challenges that Gods plan has given us but are seeking assistance to aid us through these times.
