Flash Flood- Natural Disater

—I hate asking for hand outs and was proudly raised to always be independent . But now, after all the lava evasion, we deal with yet another natural disaster, and have been heavily affected by Hurricane Lane. I need to ask for help, anything. I don’t know what quite to do after something like this. You hear about these things in the news saying “ oh, this will never happen to me.” But the fact is it does happen all to often.
On 08/24, Hurricane Lane had already passed Big Island, but a side-storm that had lingered had rained more than the hurricane itself. My girlfriend (Mariah Woodland Platt) and I were driving home after visiting a friend for their birthday dinner. In the midst of driving, we were directed by local authorities and one tiny sign towards the detour to go around the flood zone, mind you there was no proper civil defense alerts on our phones.
As we took the detour, we became lost as it was NOT consistently clearly marked! We were hit suddenly with a flash flood in a dip and our car got sweeped away off the street and began to flood all the way up to the windows and speedometer!! We were trapped inside our vechile as it was slowly submerging! Through some miracle, the window’s electric circuits worked enough so we could climb out of the window and swam to land safely without getting hurt!

I have never been in a natural disaster that has affected myself nor any of my family, and I’m so so grateful that nobody got hurt and I’m not creating this account for medical bills. But we need to get back home to Florida and be able to get back to work. Thankfully all that was lost was our car. Unfortunately, it was very nice expensive car that was our investment for getting off of this island and back home working. Our coverage ran out 2 days prior due to the plans of us leaving island.
We just want to get back to my home state and be able to return to work and not have relentless hassles to do so, just because of a horrible freak accident. All funds will be going solely to plane tickets back home in Florida and purchasing transportation to get back to work ASAP!!!
