Fitness Path for Students w/ Autism

We write to you today with the hope of garnering support for a cause that is paramount to the success of children with learning disabilities in Ohio. Summit Academy specializes in serving students with developmental delays and other learning disabilities focusing primarily on students with ADHD and high functioning Autism.

Summit Academy-Xenia is a public school of choice in the Miami Valley that pulls students from nine school districts in southwestern Ohio. 85% of our students have been identified with a learning disability and all receive special services to address their unique needs. 58% of our population receives free or reduced lunch and 30% receive services in the educational category of Autism. Parents who bring their children to our school do so after years of tireless advocacy on their behalf. Our parents are looking for a school that will reach their child and foster the kind of specialized learning they will require to become successful, well-adjusted young adults.

The staff of Summit Academy is constantly looking for new and innovative ways of engaging with students and reaching them at their level. One project is a new fitness path that will focus on helping students who struggle with poor coordination, improving balance, and regulating the proprioceptive system. The path would consist of stations focusing on balance and core strength as well as areas for outdoor experiential classroom activities, sensory engagement, and relaxation.

With 1 in 88 children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) the needs of these students is great and urgent. The total cost of the project is near $50,000 making it imperative that we reach out into the community we serve. Our hope is that you will take this opportunity to provide assistance to underfunded and underappreciated students. Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated and richly deserved by the students and staff of Summit Academy. We are a 501C3 Public School of Choice and any contributions are tax deductible under our non-profit Federal ID of 34-1938197.
