Fishing with Seabass

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Sabastian aka Seabass. I am in 6th grade and live on Alki Beach in West Seattle. I am so grateful to live on the beach. My passion is fishing. I also play football for the West Seattle Wildcats Junior Football team. I love school and excel at it. My test scores are ranked highest in the state. On the weekends, I go around and pickup cans in my neighborhood to help buy new fishing gear. While picking up cans, I always wondered why plastic is not bio-degradable and wonder why we don't come up with more ways to re-use it.

When I was in 5th grade, I had to do a project about engineering. I decided to do it about my plastic lures. My Dad was losing too many lures and fishing poles due to the drag of the metal flashers that we were using, so I came up with an idea that will not only help clean up the environment, but it will also catch fish. As you know, plastic does not decompose and it takes about 450 years for it to start decomposing. I wanted to make a product that is made out of existing plastic, so it will stay out of the lakes and landfills and help keep our earth clean for future generations.

In May 2015, I entered a fishing derby to prove that my lures are the next big thing in recycled products. And what do you know...I won 2nd place and my 4 year old brother won 3rd place. I could have won 2 categories, 1 for biggest fish and 1 for heaviest stringer, but the rules only allowed 1 category per person. Please remember me and my brother were competing with other adults. After the derby, other fisherman were asking me what kind of lure I was using and where could they get it at? I told them that I made it. It was my 5th grade school project, which I aced!

I am asking for help to raise $15,000 to get a jumpstart to get my lures out there to less fortunate kids so I can raise money to help my football team, the West Seattle Wildcats. This will help kids who can’t afford to play football and have the same passion that I do to be a part of a team and learn team work. Some of the donations will go towards better tools such as a vinyl cutter, heat gun (currently using my moms hair dryer) and to get a mold made for my blades . Currently I am handmaking and cutting my lures. With a donation, this will help cut my time in half and give me more time to focus on a few school projects that I have coming up, such as an engineering project and the Environmental Slam.  I love inventing new lures and trying them out to see if they work, part of the donations will also go toward travelling so I can test out my lures for my engineering project coming up in May.  It will be a big part of my grade for 6th grade and will take me to a state competition for the school district if I succeed.

I want to thank you for stopping by my page. I especially want to thank all of the people at Outdoor Emporium in Seattle for guiding me in the right direction and for believing in me! What an amazing company!

I also want to thank all of the people at Anglers Addiction in Pueblo, Colorado. Hopefully I can give back to the community, like what Jon Neville and Ron Van Valkenburg taught me. I want to provide this same life lesson to other kids that they have taught me. I have learned a lot in this short period of time because of these great people.  They inspired me to strive for what I do best so I can pass on the art of fishing to my kids and others and keep this legacy going for years to come.

" Based on the gift they have received, everyone should use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God." 1 Peter 4:10

"Each person should do as he has decided in his heart--not out of regret or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7

Thank you!
