Why Support Our Adventure

May 20, 2020 - Team Ghana's journey is a unique human potential story with the goal of encouraging participation and engagement in outdoor endurance sports and recreational activities among under-represented communities including African Americans, Africans, the diaspora, and indigenous communities.  We hope to attract a diverse audience, particularly youths, who will be inspired by seeing someone who “looks like them” engaging in these activities outdoor actives driven by interest and passion for the environment.

We hope that by highlighting Team Ghana's engagement in outdoor activities including endurance sports such as ultra-trail running, ski expeditions, and The Ocean Race will encourage appreciation for environmental activism, citizen science, and enjoyment of outdoor spaces such as national parks, sailing, and mountain sports among traditionally under-represented groups in America and around the world.

Filming Adventures &  Expeditions

Team Ghana's co-founder Agbeli Ameko is an ultra-marathoner and adventurer preparing to participant  in ultra-marathons, ski expeditions and ocean races with the ultimate goal of some day becoming the first African/African-American participant in The Ocean Race.

Covid-19 Update:  Due to the global pandemic, the upcoming events are postponed. Training will continue in Boulder, CO with an eye toward 2021.

Upcoming Targets:
·     Ultra-Trail Du Mont Blanc (UTMB CCC) - Aug 2020 (postponed '21, '22, or 23)
·     Sydney Hobart Ocean Race (Crew TBD) - Dec 2020
·     Asnes Amundsen Expedition and Vake - Feb/Mar 2021

Over the past three years Agbeli has represented Ghana by completing the necessary qualifying ultramarathons and was selected in last year’s lottery drawing to become the only Ghanaian to participate in the UTMB TDS. The UTMB TDS is a single-stage mountain ultramarathon covering 145km and 9,100m of vertical height gain with a maximum time limit of 42 hours. The UTMB is among the most competitive ultra-trail races in the world, with more of the top elite runners turning up each year, treating it as the World Cup or the unofficial world championships of the sport. While he did not complete last year's TDS course due to missing a time cutoff, he has been selected in this year's lottery to be back in the 101km UTMB CCC after the race returns.
