Fighting Rare Sarcoma Cancer

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

I am writing to let you know that my beloved daughter, Jill (Weber) Otter, was diagnosed in May of 2015 with a rare form of sarcoma, a soft tissue cancer. Since then, she has endured a number of chemotherapy and radiation treatments at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago, one of the top cancer centers in the country.

After a year of these treatments--all unsuccessful--she and her husband traveled to Houston, TX, this summer to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (known for their expertise in sarcomas). The physician there recommended she go on a 10-week clinical trial, a target therapy, that is fortunately being conducted at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago (also at Sloan Kettering in New York). Unfortunately, the treatment she received on the trial was not successful; in fact, incredibly the tumor has gotten bigger. She is now starting yet another course of a different chemotherapy treatment.

We are reaching out in the hopes of raising money to help pay for the enormous medical expenses she has incurred so far. While she does have medical insurance, there are many, many things that are not covered, such as prescriptions and deductibles for example. Additionally, Northwestern Hospital is out of her network.

As if Jill's medical expenses were not enough, the year before she was diagnosed, her then 16-year-old son had an emergency appendectomy, two foot surgeries, and had an accident while coaching youth basketball causing him to be completely incapacitated for three full months. Her husband had back surgery and her daughter also had surgery. Even before Jill's diagnosis, they were pushed to the limit of their finances.

Most recently, her husband lost his job, making Jill the "breadwinner" working a job that pays hourly. Clearly, she cannot work full time and probably shouldn't be working at all.

If you have the ability to donate toward these medical expenses--no matter the amount--we would be very grateful. The shock of this disease is unbelievable on its own. We hope they are able to manage the financial shock to their family as well. With your help they will.

Thank you for any help you can provide in this time of trouble for our family. Any help you could provide would be appreciated beyond measure.

Love,
Louise Weber, Holly (Weber) Salatino, Dez Weber, and the Otter Family
