Fighting Colon Cancer #teamMeadows

I know all too well that you’re never too young to be diagnosed with cancer.  Working as a part of the funeral industry and pastoring a local church, I have seen first-hand that cancer doesn’t discriminate.
My journey began on October 13, 2016 when I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer, less than a month after my 39th birthday.  In August, I started seeing my primary care physician about stomach pain.  After weeks of back and forth, he referred me to a specialist because the pain increased and I was constantly losing weight.  I finally had an ultrasound at the end of August and it revealed nothing in the colon, but did show some intestinal blockage.  My blood work uncovered an ulcer, but my cancer markers didn't reveal anything.  After the cramping pain became absolutely unbearable, and I was unable to keep food down, my specialist finally ordered a CT scan of my lower abdomen and pelvis.  When my results came back, I was informed that I would need to have emergency surgery the next day to remove cancer, although we would have to wait for the biopsy results to confirm the type of cancer.

As you can imagine, this diagnosis came as a shock!  It has been a hard pill to swallow, and my wife (Angela) and I have experienced a roller coaster of emotions in recent days as we prepare to take on this battle.  Fortunately for us, we are strong in our faith and know that God is in control.

Although our fight is just getting started, my family has already incurred substantial medical bills (i.e. office visits, surgery associated expenses, prescription costs, lab work, etc.) and are fully aware that more will be coming our way.  We have set up this Go Fund Me page to humbly request your assistance with what we realize is going to be a financial hardship on our family.  Any amount that you are able to contribute would help and be greatly appreciated.  But more than anything, we ask that you keep our family in your prayers and send positive thoughts our way.  The outpouring of love and concern that we have received in recent days has been a true blessing for us all.

 Peace and Blessings,
