Fight George's Cancer

Help George get a "Leg Up" on his cancer!

Some time near the end of October, I noticed Georgie was limping and dangling his right hind leg. I was so confused because he is with me at all times and I was sure that he didn't get hurt but I thought that maybe he pulled a muscle playing with his Rottweiler girlfriend.  After a quick vet visit, we were told that it may be a strain and to keep him on strict kennel rest and to have him take Rimadyl for the pain. After about a month and a bottle of Rimadyl later, the limp/dangle was back but not causing him to scream or whine like before. I was saving money for another vet visit because I know a persistent limp is something to look out for and I was concerned about his pain.

Come December and the limp seemed to be less exaggerated but he had -what I thought to be- swelling around the point of his hock. Just before Christmas, I was giving him a bath at work and I felt his leg. It was not good. My heart dropped. The "swelling" was big and it was very hard. I immediately got him to the vet for x-rays and tests. Fearing that it could be cancer. I was devastated to discover that he indeed had bone cancer (What we are currently calling Osteosarcoma). My best friend and soulmate. Only two years old and suffering from one of the most unforgiving diseases that any living thing can go through. At this point I had to borrow money from my very generous friend to get George through x-rays and tests. We are very overwhelmed with vet bills to say the least. Currently he is in need of more tests to determine if the cancer is spreading throughout his body. He also needs the leg amputated as soon as possible to relieve the pain from the fracture that the sarcoma is causing and to hopefully stifle the spread of the cancer. After that, we will decide if we can go through with chemo (given the funds) and hope for a miracle.

I cannot begin to express how absolutely heartbroken we all are. George is a wonderful boy and is loved by everyone around him. He is instant friends with everyone he meets. He doesn't even bark at the door. He eagerly waits to greet everyone because they clearly came just to see him. I work with dogs professionally and I can honestly say that George is an exceptional dog. He is incredibly smart and silly. He has no ability to wag his tail so he expresses his happiness with vocalizations and tappy feet.  We adopted him in February and he stole my heart as soon as I saw him. He was having a hard time getting adopted because of his breed and he seemed depressed and uninterested in people at the shelter. He has blossomed into a very good dog and I can't even believe he was ever unwanted and homeless. When I first brought him home, everything was new to him. Stairs, TV, music, even TOYS were foreign and scary for him. It didn't take long for him to settle into life as a pet though and he quickly became my right-hand man. He goes to work with me every day and especially loves to play with his best dog friends and get lots of attention from our co-workers. He even loves the vet and is very cooperative and makes everyone smile.

We appreciate any donations and sharing! This dog is worth fighting for and I just want him to live the rest of his life as comfortably as possible. (Lots of trips to the beach soon!) Please share and help us get through this hard time. Thank you.
