During the last two weeks of school in May 2015, Justin had been lethargic, slightly feverish and had bleeding gums. We took him to Urgent Care for fevers, fatigue and bleeding gums. I also took him to the dentist where he was diagnosed with gingivitis. After treatment, his condition did not improve and his gums got even worse. We took him to urgent care a second time, and a blood test was given along with an EKG. The next morning, my husband Jason got the blood test results over the phone. "Probable leukemia". Our hearts sank to the floor, then came the tears, shock, numbness and disbelief.
We were ordered to rush Justin to the ER immediately for a blood transfusion(!) His white blood cell count was at extremely high and at dangerous levels.
When we arrived, Justin's condition was stabilized and he received the blood transfusion. We were transported later to Methodist Children's Hospital. Justin was admitted into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on his first day of summer vacation-June 4, 2015.

His diagnosis is Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Since then, he has had several blood transfusions, spinal taps and chemotherapy treatments. He also battled pneumonia, an infection, and some sort of fungus.

Justin is a gifted 12-year old who also has Asperger's Syndrome. He had the opportunity to be the Kid Critic on KENS-5 Great Day SA (San Antonio) doing movie reviews for children. He also has his own Youtube channel. Justin loves drawing, filmmaking, editing and all things technology. He desires to do animation and film producing and directing when he grows up.

Due to a gene mutation called FLT-3, the best chance of success for Justin is to receive a bone marrow transplant. When he is fully in remission, Justin will receive the bone marrow transplant. He has overcome so many challenges this past six months. We believe that Justin is destined for greatness, and that he will be able to look back one day and see how much love and support he received during his greatest time of need.

Any amount you can give to help with the cost of medical bills, travel expenses, food, gas, etc. will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small. Thank you very much and we appreciate each one of you.
