On November 19 I was unexpectedly diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which was determined to be not only in my bone marrow but also in my spinal column and brain. Through God’s healing hands and with the support of family and friends I am determined to beat the leukemia and recover fully. I am asking for your help.
Within in one hour of my diagnosis I was admitted to the University of Minnesota Medical Center. I have been hospitalized for three months and will likely continue to be hospitalized well into March. In March or April I will undergo a complete bone marrow transplant and will be hospitalized for at least 30 additional days followed by 70 days of at-home confinement because of my compromised immune system. Once I am released from the hospital, I will have weekly medical appointments, bone marrow biopsy’s, and other appointments through December 2019.
During my hospitalization I have undergone multiple lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsy’s, daily aggressive chemotherapy, and recently had surgery to place a port in my skull into which chemotherapy is injected weekly. During one of the lumbar punctures, several nerves were damaged, I became paralyzed from my waist to my toes, I lost the use of my legs and am no longer able to walk. In January I underwent a spinal laminectomy to try to correct the nerve damage. Through physical therapy, I am working on regaining my strength and hopefully will walk again in the future.
I have not worked since November. I have exhausted all of my sick and vacation leave accruals. Go Fund Me donations will allow me to devote my energy to treatment and regaining my health. Thank you for any donation you are able to contribute.
