15 years ago, Gosia left her entire family behind to build a life in Canada from scratch. Today, she is a successful, young insurance services professional, a single mother to a 12-year-old, an esteemed colleague, an inspirational athlete and a strong female role model.
I met Gosia in 2014. I remember as if it was yesterday, how she walked in the room and the entire place lit up with her infectious personality. I connected with her instantly.
A year ago, Gosia’s father was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. Gosia spent the whole year poring all of her energy and resources to look after his and her mother’s affairs. He passed away on July 19th, 2019; eight months after the diagnosis.
On October 26th, 2019, Gosia had her first seizure in the back of my car. The next day she was told that she had a mass in her brain. Ironically, her dad was diagnosed on the same day just a year before.
Gosia’s exact diagnosis is a very rare, non-operable, incurable grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma. This devastating news turned her and her family’s world upside-down. The situation was made even worst by the fact that her prescribed treatment is not covered by OHIP. The first round of treatment is 6 weeks long and costs over $10,000 (of which only 1/3 is covered by the extended health care insurance).
The current plan is to continue the treatment for a period of one year after which the plan will be reviewed and potentially revised based on the progress.
Our ask is that you, please, donate what you can to raise money for her medical expenses, transportation costs to and from treatments and to help supplement some of the living costs now that she is off work. Anything no matter how small helps to assist with this difficult journey.
