Fight For Charlie

Donation protected
On Tuesday, January 30, 2019 a starving, flea ridden, semi-paralyzed kitten was brought to me in a small square laundry basket littered with his urine and feces. He was taken from a home where, at the age of 6 weeks old, he endured a trauma by the hands of a human that has caused his back legs to have extremely low mobility where he can not walk and is in pain.

I named him Charlie.

Charlie spent most of today (Wednesday, January 31, 2019) at our veterinarian where he was evaluated and x-rayed by the veterinarians on staff. When I went to pick him up and figure out what the plan would be for him, I was shocked to discover their recommendation... euthanasia.

There was not a single fiber of my being that believed this was the right choice. I won't sugar coat it, Charlie's injury is severe. He has a vertebral body fracture at T2, dorsal spinous fractures at T2 and T3, and because he is only semi-paralyzed, he can feel everything and is in pain.

Charlie is a fighter. He has so much life in those sweet eyes and he deserves to be loved after being horrifically abused. Tonight I asked the vet what causes this type of severe luxation (when the vertebrae are pulled apart and displaced from their normal orientation) and the answer was "blunt force trauma". He went on to say that they see this type of trauma in animals who are hit by cars... Charlie suffered this injury in the hands of a human being.

Here's where we stand. After the emergency veterinarian examined Charlie and looked over his x-rays, she sent them to the surgeons to review to see if there was any possible chance that they could relieve Charlie of his pain through surgery. The answer is that there is a chance. The first step is advanced imaging and potential surgical stabilization. There is a chance for this sweet boy, and after everything he has been through, after humans failed him, he deserves a chance to know love.

That chance is going to be roughly $12,000 depending on how complicated it ends up being. He will also need rehab - physical therapy, laser therapy, acupuncture, etc. to give him the best shot possible. Penn Vet is requiring $6,000 down to begin the process of advanced imaging so they can come up with a plan to save Charlie. The sooner we get Charlie in for surgery, the better!

Please fight with me, fight with Charlie. Help me help him, help me. Give him a chance to know love and have a happy ending.

We also have PayPal and Venmo if you'd like to donate where a fee isn't taken out, as well as a wishlist for Charlie. You can find those things here: Click here for the Venmo, PayPal, and Amazon Wishlist links!

Surgery update posted! Charlie has been at Penn Vet since Saturday. He's receiving 24 hour care and his surgery, if they do not abort it, has the potential to even exceed the estimate given. Pending the outcome of today's surgery, he may be there for 3-5 more days. So while we have exceeded the $20,000 goal by $50, the costs are already adding up. 4 weeks from now... 8 weeks from now... Charlie will also be receiving whatever therapies he needs. We have a long road ahead of us and I am sincerely so thankful for all of you reading this. The GoFundMe will remain active with our goal increased as we plan ahead for Charlie's future, please continue to support Charlie and sending him all the love in the world!
