My Volunteer Trip to Zambia

I have the honor and privilege to have been accepted to the HOPE Worldwide Volunteer Corp in Zambia, Africa taking place July 15-29, 2018.
Zambia is a country with a high poverty rate, with over 40% of its people living in extreme poverty. Many families are affected by HIV/AIDS, and there are an estimated 697,800 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in Zambia. HOPE worldwide Zambia (HwwZ) works in 4 impoverished communities of Lusaka, where they run programs for OVCs and Caregivers.
As a participant in this HOPE Volunteer Corp, I will work alongside HOPEwwZ in the following ways:
• Parent Support Group (PSG) Workshops - delivering practical skills to impoverished Caregivers in child engagement and development.
• Teacher Training Workshops in Early Years Education - delivering and modelling effective classroom practices in a pre-school environment.
• Assisting staff at The Learning Tree (TLT) Pre-school with lessons, crafts, and other daily activities.
• Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Workshops – delivering vocational training to Caregivers, equipping them with practical skills needed to set up or improve their own small businesses.
• Mentoring and supporting teenage girls and young women at ASPIRE Clubs.
As someone who graduated with a degree in education and has a heart for children, I am especially excited to have been chosen for this program. I know that this is a chance to make a difference in the lives of others and to honor God by serving those in need. I look forward to the chance to grow and serve in this once in a lifetime opportunity.
By donating to this fund, you are impacting not only my life but also the lives of many children and Caregivers living in poverty. The monies go towards the program fees ($1,115) which covers all meals, lodging, local transportation, administrative, and activity costs during my time with the HOPEww Volunteer Corps. I am also hoping to raise enough funds for my airfare (estimated at $1,500 to $2,000).
Any donation is greatly appreciated! This truly is an amazing opportunity, and I am humbled and grateful for it.
