Ferguson Tutoring tutors high school and college students from the Twin Cities area in math, science, and standardized testing. It is the only tutoring service in the region to go beyond basic instruction and design a study strategy based on a student’s unique personality.
Ferguson Tutoring began with just me, Suzy Ferguson . I tutored all levels of high school math, specializing in calculus. Eventually, after many requests from students, I added ACT prep . When my first daughter was born, I took a maternity leave and had a math-teacher-friend work with my students. While on leave, so many new students requested tutoring that I kept my friend on. A company was born.
My approach emphasizes communication, introspection, and individuality--there’s no student who cannot benefit. No one else approaches tutoring and ACT prep in this way, and no one gets the results that I do.
Every year I had to turn students down--more growth was inevitable. In 2015, I moved out of coffee shops to a more professional environment--taking advantage of the benefits of a coworking space . I experimented with my ACT approach and curriculum and offered my first small-group ACT class. After the second successful class, I knew that ACT prep in this small-group format was reproducible and reproducible without sacrificing my high standards or philosophy.
In early 2016 I received support including a small business loan from WomenVenture . The proceeds from this loan paid for procurement of ACT worksheet content, development of hiring processes, update to website content, development of ACT curriculum, and production of marketing materials.
Growth is not complete. Slated for 2016-2017 is publishing of the ACT class workbook and teacher's manual, development of a comprehensive teacher training program, and a major increase in office expenses to support our ongoing tutoring and ACT courses.
Unfortunately, my husband Brad and I have reached our personal limit to continue to fund this growth. Please consider supporting our business growth. My whole student approach rests on pillars that stand up outside the classroom.
