Feeding the Pink Pig

Six and a half years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction. I've been cancer free for the past six years. I could not have done it without the love, support and kindess of my friends and family. It really does take a village!
For the last five years my husband and I have hosted a race here on our farm and have asked our friends and fellow runners to FEED THE PINK PIG. Every penny we collected was donated to our local breast cancer support group, Women Supporting Women. Over the past five years we have raised close to $2500! WOW!
This year we are having our race once again, although it has morphed into more of a team running event that attracts a more dedicated runner. We are still accepting donations to the PINK PIG! This year we have decided to donate all of the collected money to a local family whose 9-month-old daughter was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. Only 1 or 2 of every million children are diagnosed with this rare form of cancer. The family has a very close and private support system, and we respect that. We would still love to help them out financially as they are traveling back and forth to Baltimore for chemotherapy treaments once a week and will be doing so for the next 48 weeks. That's right....their daughter is receiving 52 weeks of chemotherapy. Her prognosis is excellent. Her spinal tap and bone marrow biopsies have been negative, all the best of news for a bright and sunny future.
I'm asking our friends and running colleagues to help this family out by donating what you can! Insurance doesn't cover gas, food, or stuffed animals! Let's do what we can to shower this family with love and help them fight the big C with the love and support of our little village!
