Education Center + Farm Store Fundraiser
BIG NEWS! In the coming year we are planning to either create a new Educational Non-Profit or partner with an existing Non-Profit in order to host year round educational programming on the farm! How exciting is that?!
Education has been a huge part of our vision since the beginning, and over the last two years we have put on a variety of awesome classes and workshops. Just check out this recent field trip we hosted:
After doing all this programming though one thing has become abundantly clear... we need a proper facility! It has been extremely limiting to always be reliant on weather and have to set up events from scratch each and every time due to having no dedicated facility.
In addition, our current Farm Store and Processing area needs to be heavily renovated to get up to code in order to be used in the 2019 season. So why don't we solve all these problems with one solution?!
This is where you come in. Our plan is to expand our current Farm Store building by taking down the interior walls to double the interior square footage and create a space for doing classes, workshops, and small events; as well as increasing the farm store space itself to be able to carry more products produced off-site. In addition we will be putting in a public restroom, creating an outdoor processing area on a concrete slab, and getting new walk-in refrigeration units. Here's a drawing of the plan:
By donating to this project you will be setting the stage for many years to come of important and powerful educational programs at Cherry Valley Cooperative. Our planet needs people who will care for it and fight for it more than ever. Who will our environmental advocates be if our youth continue to grow up on screens and never have meaningful experiences in nature? If adults continue to look the other way when confronted about climate change, waste, and pollution? We need to be teaching people about nature, food, and farming; so that they develop real and powerful relationships with the natural world. So that we have a new generation of farmers to grow our food and nourish us all. So that we can turn around this trend of infinite waste and resource depletion. This work is imperative.
