Family of six loses everything in a house fire

On Thursday May 16, 2019, at 10am, Andrew received a devastating phone call from the council, to inform him that his family home was on fire. Their two eldest children (age 6 and 8) were at school and his wife Cass was at swimming lessons with their two youngest girls (age 1 and 3). They arrived home to see their whole house ablaze whilst firefighters worked their hardest to put it out. The fire spread quickly, completely destroying their home and causing their roof to collapse. They have lost their house and most of their possessions but are so thankful that everyone is safe. The cause of the fire is still unknown but is believed to have started in the kitchen.
Andrew and Cass are both NSW Far South Coast locals having grown up in our beautiful town. Andrew moved to Perth and then Sydney, working for the Royal Australian Navy as a Clearance Diver for 15 years. During this time he was deployed to Iraq twice and also served within a specialist Counter Terrorism unit. Cass moved to Sydney to study a bachelor of dance and PDHPE teaching and once qualified she worked in an ESL school teaching refugee teenagers.
As their family began to grow they decided they needed a sea change and wanted their children to share the incredible experiences they had growing up on the Far South Coast of NSW Australia. Since being back home Andrew transitioned out of the defence force into civilian life, working as a Senior Biosecurity Officer with animals and livestock whilst actively serving in the NAVY Reserves. Cass has been working as a dance teacher, casual high school relief teacher and managing her online business and blog “live it do it”, whilst being a busy mum of four young children.
